Frieda chose not to see any obstacles in 1962 when she became the first woman in the U.S. to own and operate a produce company on the all-male Los Angeles Wholesale Produce Market. She saw no roadblocks when she began buying and selling then unusual and new-to-market specialties like brown mushrooms\, Sunchokes®\, and spaghetti squash. She feared no fruit when she brought the first load of fuzzy brown kiwifruit in from New Zealand. That grit and determination earned Frieda the title “Queen of Kiwifruit” for her successful introduction of kiwifruit to the American market.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nOur Fun Day Timing & Details\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nTiming & Locations:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n10:30 am Arrive at Frieda’s – Behind the Scenes Tour & Product Sampling – Address: 4465 Corporate Center Dr\, Los Alamitos\, CA 90720\n11:45 am Depart – Drive 10 minutes to Earth Friendly Products – Address: 11150 Hope St\, Cypress\, CA 90630\n12:00 pm Arrive at Earth Friendly Products – Behind the Scenes Tour\n1:00 pm Farm to Table Luncheon & Frieda’s 95th Birthday Celebration!\n3:00 pm Conclusion\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nWho May Attend & Costs:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nTrusteeship Members Only. SUMMARY:Remembering Brenda French - March 24
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\nPlease join The Trusteeship for an informal “Celebration of Life”\nfor long time member\, Brenda French.\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \nTrusteeship member\, Sandy Gooch\, and her husband\, Harry Lederman\, have arranged for a luncheon for Trusteeship members who would like to celebrate the colorful life of Brenda French.\n \nThe luncheon will be held at the California Yacht Club (CYC) on Saturday\, March 24 in a private space in the main dining room which will begin at 11:45 and end at 2:45.\n \nWe hope you will come dressed in your favorite French Rags outfit in celebration of Brenda.\n \nPayment information is below.\n \n\nPlease advise Julie about your attendance four days before the event (March 20th) so she can let the club know the headcount. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nWhen:\nSaturday\, March 24\n11:45am – 2:45pm\n \nWhere:\nCalifornia Yacht Club (CYC)\n4469 Admiralty Way\nMarina del Rey\, CA 90292\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nCost/Payment:\nThe CYC will bill each attendee individually. The lunch menu is attached here for your reference and please know these prices do not include tax and gratuity which will be added at the CYC.\nThe club accepts MasterCard and Visa only.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP HERE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n Brenda’s story is the classic American dream story…born of women who worked in the factories in England\, and in two generations\, became the Owner and CEO of her own knitwear design company.\n\n\n \nBrenda was born in the Manchester area\, where her grandmother and great aunt had worked in the woolen mills. They were hired\, at lower wages than the men\, and had the advantage of smaller hands\, so they could more nimbly fix the machines that jammed or broke down.\n \nBrenda came to the US in the 60’s\, ultimately settling in Los Angeles. She designed and manufactured in her own factory in West LA\, turning out great clothes for decades that graced many a red carpet and many a high-placed woman (including Hillary Clinton\, who as First Lady wore French Rags to a State Department Dinner at The White House).\n \nShe joined the Trusteeship in 1995\, and any time thereafter\, a good number of our members could be seen in the array of brightly colored jackets that Brenda had created.\n \nBrenda moved to Santa Fe in 2010\, but kept her ties intact to The Trusteeship up to her passing on December 2nd from complications of cancer.\n \nShe is survived by her son Nicholas. To read Nicholas’ full message and Brenda’s obituary\, please click Here.\n \nAlso\, find a beautiful tribute letter from Hylan Booker\, Charlotte Schiff Booker’s husband who worked with Brenda for many years. Click Here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
