They were hired\, at lower wages than the men\, and had the advantage of smaller hands\, so they could more nimbly fix the machines that jammed or broke down.\n \nBrenda came to the US in the 60’s\, ultimately settling in Los Angeles. She designed and manufactured in her own factory in West LA\, turning out great clothes for decades that graced many a red carpet and many a high-placed woman (including Hillary Clinton\, who as First Lady wore French Rags to a State Department Dinner at The White House).\n \nShe joined the Trusteeship in 1995\, and any time thereafter\, a good number of our members could be seen in the array of brightly colored jackets that Brenda had created.\n \nBrenda moved to Santa Fe in 2010\, but kept her ties intact to The Trusteeship up to her passing on December 2nd from complications of cancer.\n \nShe is survived by her son Nicholas. To read Nicholas’ full message and Brenda’s obituary\, please click Here.\n \nAlso\, find a beautiful tribute letter from Hylan Booker\, Charlotte Schiff Booker’s husband who worked with Brenda for many years. Click Here.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:The Music Center’s THE RHYTHM OF CUBA\, A Part of Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA
DESCRIPTION:THE RHYTHM OF CUBA COMES TO L.A.!\n\n\n\n\nWest Coast Premiere of Malpaso Dance Company \n\n\n\n\nCelebrate the rhythm of Cuba with the syncopated movements of Havana-based Malpaso Dance Company at The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on December 2. Led by its charismatic artistic director Osnel Delgado\, Malpaso is committed to bringing Cuban contemporary dance into the 21st century by fusing movements from the streets with traditional dance through collaborations with top international choreographers and new voices in Cuban dance. \nHome to iconic dance traditions such as the Habanera\, Son\, Mambo and Cha-Cha\, Cuba has a deep history as “a dancing island.” Malpaso honors that history\, yet creates a dance vocabulary all its own\, blending ballet technique with earthy modern dance articulated by fluid athleticism. \n\n\n\n\nThis dance presentation is a special add-on engagement to the 17/18 Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center season and part of The Music Center’s Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA programming\, Cuba: Antes/Ahora\, Then/Now\, a three-day event featuring celebrated dancers\, musicians and visual artists from all over Cuba.
