In the LA area that’s KCRW (89.9 FM) and KPCC (89.3 FM) beginning at 4 pm every week day. Kelly hosts the program from NPR West with co-hosts Robert Siegel\, Audie Cornish\, and Ari Shapiro in NPR’s Washington\, D.C. headquarters. \nMcEvers was previously a national correspondent based at NPR West. Prior to that\, McEvers ran NPR’s Beirut bureau\, where she earned a George Foster Peabody award\, an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia award\, a Gracie award\, and an Overseas Press Club mention for her 2012 coverage of the Syrian conflict. DESCRIPTION:The Trusteeship trip to Tostan in Senegal\, Africa is almost organized. We have enough details to share so you can do some planning and commit to the trip.\nBackground:\n\nOur Trusteeship member and Meredith MacRae Award winner\, Molly Melching\, is the founder and president of Tostan\, a human-rights organization focused on abandonment of genital cutting of women\, preventing child marriage and educating all in villages throughout West Africa (www.tostan.org). \n\n\nTrusteeship member Judy Miller introduced Tostan to all of us. About fifteen Trusteeship members visited Tostan in 2006. It was a memorable trip\, definitely worthy of a reprise for its exotic\, impactful learning experience and the fun of being together. \n\nDates:\nJanuary 28\, 2017 – February 5\, 2017.\n\nItinerary:\nWe do not have a day by day itinerary planned yet. In general\, please expect:\n\nThe first day of the trip to relax and recover from jet lag in a beach hotel in the Somone\, near Dakar. Dinner at Molly’s home to go over the trip highlights.\nVisits to various villages around Dakar to see the Tostan programs in practice.\nSeeing the first village program sponsored by the Judy Miller Tostan for Kids Fund.\nMeeting staff at the Tostan training center in Thies and learning about all the Tostan programs and plans.\nEating Senegalese food.\nA trip to another country\, The Gambia\, to visit new villages in the Tostan program.\nLearning about Senegelese culture through local music\, drumming and dancing\, culture and art galleries\, lectures and programs.\nOpportunities to shop for the colorful local dress (boubous) and Toareg jewelry.\nMany other fun\, educational\, memorable experiences.\n\n\nCosts: \n\n\nAir Fare: Coach round trip between New York and Dakar is approximately $1\,200. You will also have to get back and forth to Los Angeles.\nCosts in Dakar: Ground transportation\, hotels\, most meals and any internal air flights will be approximately $3\,000.\n\nContribution to the Judy Miller Tostan for Kids Fund: We are asking participants to contribute a minimum of $1\,000 to help create another Trusteeship-funded Judy Miller Tostan for Kids program.\nTotal Cost of Trip: Approximately $5\,200.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nReserve today! The maximum number of people that Tostan can accommodate is 20. Judy Miller’s daughters are interested in participating with the Trusteeship on this trip.\n\n\n\n\nTrip reservations are open to all Trusteeship members and to Judy Miller’s daughters until July 7.
